Columbus and the surrounding terrain is perfect for cross-country skiing. With gentle ups and downs, there are many great places to practice nearby. Cross-country skiers and sled riders will find accommodations in area metro parks. Cross Country trails are available at Batelle-Darby Creek, Blacklick Woods, Blendon Woods, Sharon Woods and Highbanks park.
Despite Central Ohio being built mostly rolling Midwestern prairie, we do have the benefit of several nearby hills that offer shady-side slope for winter sports enthusiasts to enjoy. Although they are reliant on snowmaking equipment and don’t offer the highest level of challenge, they are a great place to learn, or to put in practice for the bigger and better slopes offered in more mountainous areas.
If you love to ski, you may want to consider joining the Columbus Ski Club. This non-profit club has more than 2000 members. Members frequently hit area slopes together, schedule about a dozen U.S. and international trips, and multiple local trips a year. The club also organizes the “Ski Swap”, an event held just before the ski season starts, where skiers can buy and trade used equipment and obtain information from ski resorts.
